The program assistant provides developmentally appropriate activities and environment for school-age children. Works with children in an AYS before-and after-school program in compliance with COA Council on Accreditation standards and AYS policies and procedures.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Ensure compliance with COA, licensing and AYS policies and procedures
  • Attain and maintain COA accreditation
    • Complete annual reports and submit to Regional Program Manager at least 30 days prior to due date
  • Establish program goals and priorities
    • Attend and participate in weekly director meetings
    • Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings
  • Observe and monitor program to ensure quality care is being provided
  • Develop and implement safety and security procedures for the program
  • Purchase, order, or pick up program supplies, while keeping within program budget restrictions
  • Be available for parent questions and concerns
  • Work with Regional Program Manager to identify staffing needs and participate in hiring and training staff
  • Maintains children's records and files
  • Updates and records all parent fees and payment records. 
  • Participate and represent AYS, Inc. in school functions, including, but not limited to; teacher meetings, PTA/PTO meetings, and ice cream socials or other social events hosted by the school. 
  • Attend/present training sessions in the Professional Development Center
    • Attend all required training per year through the Professional Development Center, continuing education classes, or other approved training courses.
    • Develop and present training classes to AYS, Inc. staff as well as community professionals
  • Training Requirements:
    • All basic training classes must be completed within the first 90 days of employment or within the first 90 days of each school year. For continued employment with AYS, Inc., employees must meet this requirement
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Resolve questions, issues, and problems as they arise
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with school/church staff
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Is responsible for supervision and evaluation of team members
  • Schedule and conduct weekly staff meetings
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • BA or BS is required. 
  • Degree in Early Learning, Education, or related field is preferred.
  • One year experience in programming for children/youth required.
  • Writing and implementing lesson plans preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of child care regulations, operation of child care programs or facilities and developmental needs of program participants.
  • Proficiency in record keeping practices and procedures and financial record keeping.
  • Knowledge relating to supervision and management of program personnel.
  • Proficiency in using computers and related software; experience with Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
  • Collaborates with and supports coworkers by helping out where needed; creates and maintains positive relationships with coworkers; asks for and listens to coworker feedback and incorporates feedback into revised processes
  • Completes work on time and with proper quality.
  • Supports cross-training and shares learning with others.

  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift children and equipment up to 50lbs occasionally
